BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped non-conference doubleheader against Adrian (Mich.) College on the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.

Adrian (7-10) won the first game by a final score of 6-2 and took the second game by a final score of 8-1 in six innings.

In game one, BW (9-13) scored its only two runs off the bat of freshman third baseman Paige Loveless (Mechanicsburg) when she smacked her first career homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The Yellow Jackets collected four base hits in the game. The Bulldogs scored six runs on 10 hits as they tallied two runs in the second, three in the third and one in the sixth.
 

The BW offense was led by freshman center fielder Abbie Thompson (Madison) as she collected just her second career multiple hit game with a 2-for-3 performances.  Thompson also scored a run.  Loveless had the Yellow Jackets lone extra base hit as she went 1-for-3 with two runs batted-in (RBIs) and a run scored.  Junior right fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/Dublin Scioto) collected the other base hit as she went 1-for-3.

In the circle, junior Academic All-OAC pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) suffered the loss as she pitched four innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.   Junior Christine Lyzen (Columbia Station/Columbia) pitched the final three innings and allowed one run on three hits with her first two career strikeouts. 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on five hits hits as their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning.   Adrian scored nine runs on 12 hits as it tallied three runs in the first and third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Loveless, Thompson, junior right fielder Nicolette Kunath (Columbia Station/Columbia), sophomore designated player Nicole Fletterick (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls) and freshman first baseman Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) all recorded a base knock.

In the circle, Lyzen made just her second career start and suffered the loss as she allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout.   Morgan pitched three and a third innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.  Nelsen pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow, Thursday, April 14 when they host a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Marietta College on the Cuyahoga Fairgrounds Field at 3 p.m.   BW then hits the road for a pair of OAC doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17.   The Yellow Jackets first travel to Wilmington on Saturday for their doubleheader at 1 p.m.   BW closes out the weekend when it travels to Tiffin for a rescheduled doubleheader at 1 p.m.
