BEREA, OHIO-- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team won both games of a doubleheader with non-conference foe Ursuline College this afternoon (Monday, April 19, 2010) at Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea. The Yellow Jackets took game one, 5-4, and won the nightcap, 6-4. Today's twinbill wrapped up a 10-game B-W home stand that included three doubleheaders in the last three days.

With the sweep, the Yellow Jackets improve to 18-13 overall and are back in action tomorrow at Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg University at 3:30 p.m. in Tiffin. The Arrows drop to 7-21 overall.

In game one, Ursuline capitalized on three Yellow Jacket errors and scored twice in the top of the second. The Yellow Jackets got even when junior catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/Medina Highland) singled home senior shortstop Mallory Kobak (Independence) and junior first baseman Katrina Resek (Strongsville) reached on a fielder's choice that scored senior outfielder Chelsea Saunders (Medina/Highland).

The Arrows regained the lead at 3-2 with two hits and a stolen base in the fifth but B-W quickly answered with two runs in its half of the inning. Kobak was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored on a single by Saunders who came around on a fielder's choice by senior third baseman Megan Coyne (Valley City/Keystone)

The Yellow Jackets added an insurance run in the sixth when Kobak again singled, stole second and scored on a Saunders single. Ursuline scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh but stranded two runners when Coyne made a solid putout to end the game.

On the mound, sophomore Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) pitched her 15th complete game to improve to 15-7. She allowed four runs (only one earned) on four hits and four walks and struck out five.

At the plate, Saunders was 4-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Kobak was 2-for-3 with three steals and three runs and Davis was 2-for-4.

In game two, B-W scored first in the bottom of the first when Saunders walked, stole two bases and scored on a passed ball. Coyne then drilled a triple to right center that scored Baker. Ursuline picked up a run in the second then pulled a double steal and took advantage of an error to score twice in the third.

The Yellow Jackets came back with two in their half of the third when Coyne doubled home Kobak and Saunders. B-W then made the score 5-3 in the fourth when Kobak walked to score sophomore second baseman Katie Finley (Vermilion) who left off with a double. The Arrows got one in the fifth on two hits but B-W once again countered when Resek stole a base and eventually scored on an error.
