Three Yellow Jackets Named to 2010 Academic All-OAC Softball Team

BEREA, OHIO -- Three standout Baldwin-Wallace College student-athletes, senior third baseman Megan Coyne (Brunswick/ LaGrange Keystone), junior catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) and junior first baseman Katrina Resek (Strongsville), have been named to the 2010 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Softball Team. The trio helped BW to a 23-17 overall record this spring.

Coyne
 and Davis were named to the Academic All-OAC squad and Resek received honorable mention accolades. Davis is a repeat Academic All-OAC choice and Coyne and Resek are making the team for the first time.

Coyne, who recently graduated with a 3.357 grade point average in human resources management, starred at third base for the Yellow Jackets for three seasons after beginning her collegiate career across town at Notre Dame College (of Ohio).

At the plate this season, Coyne batted .317 (38-for-120) with 28 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, six homeruns, 30 runs batted-in and four stolen bases in four attempts. She also had a .900 fielding average.  For her career, Coyne hit .332 (142-for-428) with 104 runs scored, 40 doubles, seven triples, 17 homers, 105 RBI and 13 steals in 14 attempts. In the classroom, Coyne once earned Dean's List honors while at B-W.

Davis, who carries a 3.92 grade point average in pre-physical therapy and athletic training, is en route to being the best player in Yellow Jacket softball history.

At the plate this season, Davis batted .409 (52-for-127) with 27 runs scored, nine doubles and a team-leading seven homers and 39 RBI. Davis also stole eight bases in nine attempts, had a fine .987 fielding average with just two errors in 153 total chances and led the team with a .646 slugging and .434 on-base average.  After three seasons, Davis has a .404 career batting average (160-for-396) with 109 runs scored, 42 doubles, five triples, 16 homers, 117 RBI, 26 steals in 30 attempts and a .978 fielding average.

In the classroom, Davis is a Dean's List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies and a Jacket Scholar. She has twice been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV team, including being a first-team pick this year and currently listed on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ballot.  Davis also is a member of both COAST (College Association of Student Prainers) and the B-W Pre-Physical Therapy Club.

Resek, who carries a 3.58 grade point average in sports medicine and exercise science, made a smooth transition from shortstop, where she started as a freshman and sophomore, to first base this spring.

At the plate this season, Resek batted .315 (35-for-111) with 20 runs scored, three doubles, three triples, three homers, 18 RBI and seven stolen bases in seven attempts. In the field, she recorded a .983 fielding average.  After three seasons in the Brown & Gold, Resek is hitting .306 (117-for-382) with 69 runs scored, 17 doubles, seven triples, six homers, 55 RBI and 26 steals in 30 attempts. She also has .956 career fielding, .435 slugging and .353 on-base averages. In the classroom, Resek is a Dean's List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies and a Jacket Scholar.
