Long Records 3,000th Career Assist, Men's Volleyball Defeats Fontbonne (Mo.) in Breast Cancer Awareness Match

BEREA, Ohio - Senior All-Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League setter Brandon Long (Hinckley/Metea Valley [Ill.]) recorded the 3,000th assist of his career as the Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball team defeated Fontbonne (Mo.) University by a score of 3-0 in a Breast Cancer Awareness and Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League match in Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Prior to the match, the Yellow Jackets celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness and encouraged everyone to "Fight" with patients and families facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

BW Leaders (12-12, 6-1 MCVL)

  • Long, the program's all-time assists leader, tallied 35 assists including his 3,000th in the third set and also led the team in digs with nine
  • Senior Academic All-MCVL outside hitter Nick Irelan (London/Olentangy Liberty) made it back-to-back games with 10+ kills as he led all players with 11
  • Senior All-MCVL outside hitter Michael Beard (Hilliard/Darby), who was also recognized in tonight's match, did it all with four aces, nine kills, six digs, and two assists 
  • Junior All-MCVL right-side hitter Michael Devlin (Zelienople/Seneca Valley) had the only solo block of the night for the Yellow Jackets and had eight kills
  • Freshman outside hitter Daniel Latham (Westerville/Westerville Central) added nine kills on a .818 hitting percentage and three aces

Fontbonne Leaders (5-17, 2-4 MCVL)

  • Senior setter Alex Gantt led the Griffins with 28 assists
  • Freshman libero Ryan Rhodes tallied a game-high 10 digs
  • Sophomore middle hitter Josh Blomberg was the team-leader in kills with eight

First Set (BW 25-20)

  • BW led in kills 14-9
  • Yellow Jackets hit .480
  • Griffins hit .182

Second Set (BW 25-19)

  • Both teams had 11 kills
  • Yellow Jackets hit .375
  • Griffins hit .292

Third Set (BW 25-18)

  • BW led in kills 18-12
  • Yellow Jackets hit .389
  • Griffins hit .385
