#16-Ranked BW Men's Soccer Team Stays Unbeaten with Win Versus Calvin (Mich.)

BEREA, OHIO -- The #16-ranked (nscaa.com) Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team stayed unbeaten at 6-0 for the season following a 2-1 victory over Calvin (Mich.) at the OAC/MIAA Invitational at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio on Friday evening (September 19, 2008).

Both sides went scoreless throughout the first half with Calvin outshooting the Yellow Jackets 6-4 over the first 45 minutes of play.

The game remained scoreless until the 53:00 mark of the second stanza when B-W senior captain Cory Kovach (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) scored off of a pass from sophomore and fellow midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. Calvin tied things up at 73:10 after a B-W own goal but the Jackets were able to regain the lead for good when freshman Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/Senior) scored his team-best fifth goal of 2008 with just 6:02 remaining on the clock. Senior defender Mitch Keidan (Blacklick/Gahanna Lincoln) picked up his first assist of the year to aid the game-winner.

In goal, junior keeper Russ Mika (Medina/Senior) recorded three saves en route to his third victory of the season.

Overall, B-W held a 10-9 edge in shots while Calvin won the corner kick battle 6-5.

The Yellow Jackets finish up the weekend versus Albion (Mich.) at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow and will return to action next week on Wednesday, September 24 at home against Allegheny College (Pa.).
