BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 4-1, today (Wednesday October 22, 2008) at Bernlohr Stadium in Bexley.
The Yellow Jackets' fall to 11-5-0 overall and 1-5 in the OAC. Capital improves to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Capital opened the scoring at the at the 32:32 mark when Michael Gregory scored off of an assist from Joey Synder. Synder would have his second assist just eight minutes later when Crusader Daniel McCarthy scored at the 40:08 mark.
In the second half, Capital would extend its lead at 73:29 with an unassisted goal by Steven McCarthy. B-W would get on the board at the 75:34 mark when a header by sophomore midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Senior midfielder Andy Synk (Strongsville) contributed to the goal with his team-high ninth assist of the season. The Crusaders would answer back at 79:35 with a header by Lewis Black.
In goal for B-W, junior Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) faced 24 Crusader shots and made four saves en route fall to 6-3 for the season.
Capital won the battle of shots, 24-12, and corner kicks, 4-3.
After 16 matches in 2008, the Yellow Jackets are led in scoring Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) with 17 points on eight goals and one assist. Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) is second with five goals and four assists for 14 points.
B-W returns to action on Saturday, October 25 when it hosts Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta College on the pitch of Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The game will feature Senior's night and will follow the Yellow Jacket women versus Marietta at 5:30 p.m.
