Men's Soccer Team Ties John Carroll, 0-0 in Double Overtime

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team tied Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll University, 0-0, tonight in an evenly played match (Tuesday October 28, 2008) on the pitch of Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.

With the tie, the Yellow Jackets are now 12-5-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the OAC. With its tie, John Carroll is 9-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the OAC.

After a scoreless first half, B-W nearly opened the scoring in the 56th minute when a shot by junior midfielder Jim Synk (Strongsville)  was initially saved by JCU goalkeeper Matt DeMarchi, but the rebound fell to sophomore midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), who's close-range follow-up was also sent away by DeMarchi.  In the second overtime, BW junior goalkeeper Russ Mika (Medina/Senior) made a fine diving save off a shot by JCU's Jeff Kosek to preserve the tie.

In goal for B-W, Mika was steady all night as he played all 110 minutes, while allowing no goals.  Mika's record is now 7-3-1 on the season.

B-W won the battle of shots, 17-16, and JCU  led in corner kicks, 3-2.

B-W returns to action on Friday, October 31 when it hosts OAC rival Wilmington College at Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m. for the regular season finale.
