BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Oberlin College, 6-1, today (Wednesday, September 10, 2008) in a non-league contest in Oberlin, Ohio.
With the win B-W improves to 4-0 while Oberlin drops to 4-2 with the loss.
Offensively, B-W scored four goals in the first half beginning with freshman forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/Senior), who scored unassisted at the 8:15 mark. Vandendriessche did not stop there, putting in his second goal 11:14 into the game off an assist from senior midfielder Andy Synk (Strongsville). Then at the 11:58 mark, senior midfielder Cory Kovach (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) scored an unassisted goal. The fourth and final goal of the first half came from sophmore forward Tyler Leister (Stow-Munroe Falls) via assist from Synk. Leister then scored again at 73:25 on an another assist from Synk, giving Synk three assists on the day. Leister then wrapped up a hat trick of his own, scoring his third and final goal at the 84:59 mark unassisted. Oberlin's only goal came from Mike Mullaley at the 47:16 mark.
B-W won the battle of shots 13-7, while Oberlin out-cornered the Yellow Jackets 4-1. Oberlin committed 18 fouls compared to BW's 11 in a game that saw five cards issued.
In goal, B-W junior goalkeeper Russ Mika (Medina/Senior) played all 90 minutes and made one save, while allowing one Oberlin goal.
The next Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer match is this Saturday, September 13, as the Yellow Jackets host Grove City (Pa.) College in the second game of a men's and women's soccer doubleheader. The B-W women host Case Western Reserve University at 4:30 p.m. in the opener. This Saturday is also B-W soccer Alumni Day.
