Women’s Basketball Wins Road Game Against St. Vincent (Pa.)

LATROBE, Pa.  –The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball kept its perfect season in tact as it posted a 68-48 non-conference victory against St. Vincent College in the Robert S. Carey Center.

BW (9-0) is undefeated to open the season for the first time since the 2005-06 season when it opened that season also at 9-0.  The Yellow Jackets also won 22 of their first 24 games during that campaign.  

BW had three players score in double figures led by sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) as she scored a game-high 13 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.  Freshman guard Tiffany Bentler (North Canton/Hoover) tallied a career-high 12 points and senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) chipped in 10 points. 

St. Vincent (5-5) was led by Taylor Boring as she scored a team-high 11 points.  Babette Sanmartin grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds, including 13 defensive. 

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 17-5 lead on a three-pointer by Bentler at the 3:10 mark.  The Bearcats scored the final points of the quarter on a three-pointer by Kayla Slovenec at 1:39 but trailed 17-8.

BW started the second quarter on a 15-6 run to take a 32-14 advantage when senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg), who is this week's OAC Player of the Week, split a pair of free throws at the 2:05 mark.  St. Vincent closed out the half on an 8-2 run but trailed 34-16 at the intermission. 

The Yellow Jackets used an 13-4 run to extend their lead to 47-20 on jumper by sophomore forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/Olentangy) at the 3:56 mark.  The Bearcats used an 8-3 run to cut the lead down to 50-28 after three periods of play. 

In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets pushed its lead to as many as 28 points on two occasions with the last coming at 65-37 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard/forward Alex Starr (Millersburg/West Holmes) at the 3:58 mark.  St. Vincent closed the game on a 13-3 run but fell by 20-points.

BW is back in action on Thursday, December 29 when it hosts the College of Wooster in an opening round game of the BW Holiday Invitational in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 4 p.m.
