Women’s Basketball Gets Back to Winning Ways with Victory at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball got back to its winning ways as it won a 66-45 Ohio Athletic Conference game against Otterbein University in the Rike Center. 

BW (12-3, 5-3 OAC), who snapped a three-game losing streak, had three players score in double figures led by senior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) as she poured in a game-high 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) and sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) each chipped in 10 points.

Otterbein (7-8, 3-5 OAC) was led by junior forward Kiersten Taylor and sophomore All-OAC guard Dani Kissel as he each scored 10 points

The Yellow Jackets opened the first quarter on an 8-2 run when senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy) scored on a layup at the 5:18 mark.  The Cardinals outscored BW 4-3 the remainder of the quarter but trailed 11-6.

The Yellow Jackets came out in the second quarter on fire as Fecht  buried a pair of three-pointers, Clark knocked down a jumper and freshman guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Lake/Elyria Catholic) knocked down a triple to push the lead to 22-6 at the 7:00 mark. Otterbein responded with an 13-3 run to cut the lead down to 25-19 on a jumper by Delaney Cutteridge at 3:06.  BW closed out the first half on an 8-4 run to lead 33-23 at the intermission.   The Yellow Jacket got the final points of the second quarter on a trey from junior Academic All-OAC guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) with three seconds remaining. 

BW started the second half on a 7-2 run to extend its lead to 40-25 on a three-pointer by Colombo at the 7:08 mark.  Each team scored 10 points over the final minutes but the Yellow Jackets led 55-35 after three quarters of action. 

BW opened the final quarter on a n 11-4 to take a 61-39 advantage when sophomore forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/Olentangy) at the 5:41 mark.  The Cardinals outscored the Yellow Jackets by a count of 6-5 the remainder of the game. 

BW returns home to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gym on Wednesday, January 18 when it hosts an OAC game against cross-town rival John Carroll University at 7:30 p.m. Fans can follow all of the action live at http://www.bwyellowjackets.com/x/bv58s.
