Women’s Basketball Sweeps Season Series with Muskingum

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team swept the season series as it defeated Muskingum University by a final score of 76-58 in the first game of a women's and men's Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (14-3, 7-3 OAC), who is in the second game of a four-game homestand, had three players score in double figures led by senior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) as she recorded her sixth career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy) contributed 17 points and sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) added 10.

Muskingum (9-8, 5-5 OAC) had three players score in double digits as senior forward Mallory Taylor, junior guard Olivia Besancon and sophomore guard Dana Parkman all scored 12 points.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 11-2 when Fecht made her second three pointer at the 7:03 mark. Muskingum responded with a 9-4 run to cut the lead down to 15-11 when junior guard Alexandra Carson scored on a layup with 2:57 left in the first stanza. BW outscored the Fighting Muskies 10-4 in the final two minutes of the first quarter to give the Yellow Jackets a 25-15 lead.

In the second quarter, Lemmon made a jumper which capped off a 12-6 run to give BW a 37-21 lead with 1:57 remaining in the quarter. Muskingum went on a 6-2 run when Parkman made a layup as time expired to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 39-27 at the intermission. 

BW went on a 12-5 run to open up the second half to take its largest lead of the game at 51-34 when Lemmon made a layup at the 4:59 mark. The Fighting Muskies outscored the Yellow Jackets 15-8 in the final five minutes of the third quarter to cut the BW lead to 59-49 going into the fourth quarter.

The Yellow Jackets outscored Muskingum 17-9 in the final quarter of play and led the remainder of the game. The Fighting Muskies cut the lead to 59-51 when junior guard Caitlyn Smith knocked down a jumper at the 8:32 mark.  BW closed out the game on a 17-7 run and extended its lead to 76-58 when Fecht knocked down the final basket of the game with 2:12 left in the game.
