Seven Women's Basketball Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-OAC Honors

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Seven Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball student-athletes have been named to the 2017 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. 

In order to be selected as Academic All-OAC a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and maintain varsity status.

Sophomore forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/Olentangy), junior guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview), senior All-OAC guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg), senior All-OAC forward Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy), sophomore guard Alex Starr (Millersburg/West Holmes), sophomore guard MacKenzi Matthews (North Royalton) and sophomore forward Courtnay Cruise (Wooster/Triway) are seven of 16 BW student-athletes to be recognized. 

Womeldorf, who garners her first career Academic All-OAC honor, is a mathematics major and has a 3.90 grade point average. She is also a Dean's List student, treasurer of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Teaching Together club. Womeldorf appeared in 26 games this season, averaged five points off the bench and 2.2 rebounds.

Smith, who garners second Academic All-OAC accolade, is a pre-physical therapy major and carries a 3.87 grade point average. She is also Dean's List student and a member of the College Organizations of Athletic Student Trainer and Pre-Physical Therapy Club. Smith appeared in all 26 games, averaged 5.3 points per game and shot 36.6 percent from beyond the arc. 

Colombo, who earns her third career Academic All-OAC honor, is a communications & disorders major and has a 3.77 grade point average. She is also a Dean's List student, member of the Dayton C. Miller honor society, Jacket Scholar and a member of the SAAC. This season Colombo was an All-OAC first-team selection, started in all 26 games and averaged a career-high 12.2 points per game. 

Clark, who garners her third career Academic All-OAC accolade, is a public relations major and carries a 3.73 grade point average. She is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Digital Marketing and Center for Innovation & Growth. On the court, Clark averaged 11 points per game and shot 43 percent from the field. 

Starr, who earns her first career Academic All-OAC honor, is an accounting major and has a 3.64 grade point average. In addition, she is a Dean's List student and a member of the Accounting Association. Starr appeared in 17 games off the bench and shot 40 percent from the field. 

Matthews, who garners her first Academic All-OAC accolade, is a sport management major and carries a 3.56 grade point average. She is also a Dean's List student. Matthews played in 21 game off the bench this season and tallied a career-high 25 points and eight assists.

Cruise, who earns her first Academic All-OAC honor, is an exercise science major and carries a 3.54 grade point average. She is also Dean's List student. Cruise appeared in five games this year and shot 100 percent from the free throw line.
