Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio –The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team cruised to a 30-point victory as it posted with an 81-51 Ohio Athletic Conference win against the University of Mount Union inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Center.


BW (20-4, 13-4 OAC) had four players score in double figures led by sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) as she scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) and junior Academic All-OAC guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) each contributed 13 points. Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Sydney Clark (Parma/Lake Ridge Academy) chipped in 10 points Senior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Mount Union (12-12, 7-10 OAC) was led by senior Academic All-OAC guard Abbey Bartoszewicz as she scored 15 points.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 12-7 advantage on a layup by Clark at the 5:36 mark.  The Purple Raiders responded with a 9-6 run to cut the lead down to 18-16 on three-pointer by Bartoszewicz at 1:27. BW closed out the first quarter on a 5-0 run to lead 23-16.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second quarter on a 6-1 run to extend their lead to 29-17 on a layup by freshman guard Tiffany Bentler (North Canton/Hoover) at the 7:02 mark.  Mount Union answered back with a 5-0 run to cut the lead down to 29-22 on a triple by freshman guard Tori Rappach at 5:46. BW closed out the half on a 7-2 run to lead 36-24 at the intermission.   The Yellow Jackets got their final points on a pair of free throws from senior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) at the 2:21 mark.

BW opened the second half on an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 20 points at 44-24 on a three-pointer by Smith at the 8:21 mark.  The Purple Raiders fought back with a 10-0 run to cut the lead down to 10 points at 44-34 on a trey from Bartoszewicz at 5:30. The Yellow Jackets closed out the third quarter on a 10-4 run to push its lead to 54-38 with the final points coming on a three-pointer by Fecht at the 1:17 mark.

BW outscored Mount Union by a count of 24-13 in the fourth quarter and pushed its lead to as many as 33 points at 76-43 on a pair of free throws by freshman guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Lake/Elyria Catholic) at the 2:26 mark.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season portion of schedule on Saturday, February 18 when they host an OAC and Seniors' and Parents' Day game against Wilmington College at 3 p.m.  Fans can follow all of the action live at http://www.bwyellowjackets.com/x/bylyk

The OAC Tournament begins on Monday, February 20 with opening round games on the campuses of the fifth and sixth seeds at 7:30 p.m. The quarterfinal games will be contested on Tuesday, February 21 on the campuses of third and fourth seeds at 7:30 p.m.   The semifinal games will be held on Thursday, February 23 on the campuses of the top two seeds.   The championship game will be contested on Saturday, February 25 on the campus of the highest remaining seed at 2 p.m.
