Men’s Basketball Drops Consolation Game in BW Holiday Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team was defeated by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) by a score of 77-68 in the consolation game of the BW Holiday Invitational in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (6-5) had two players score in double figures led by junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk), who was named to the all-tournament team, recorded his 16th career double-double with a team-high 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) also contributed 10 points.

Junior All-OAC Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored five points which moved him to 22nd on the all-time BW scoring list with 1,144 points.  He now needs 15 points to pass Brandan Schuler (2004-08) for 20th place with 1,159.

Rose-Hulman (5-6) had two players score in double figures led by sophomore forward Charlie Aimone with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Collin Wojcik also contributed 18 points and six rebounds.

In the first half, BW sped out to a 10-0 lead after Quiring buried a three-pointer at the 16:44 mark. The Fighting Engineers were able to quickly counter a 14-2 run after freshman guard Ryuji Aoki scored five straight points for Rose-Hulman giving them a 14-12 with 11:54 left in the half. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Engineers 26-16 throughout the rest of the half giving BW a 38-30 advantage at the intermission.  

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets went on an early 10-3 run when sophomore guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion) made a three at 17:46. Rose-Hulman responded with a 12-0 run highlighted by Aimone's nine straight points with 15:00 left in regulation. The Fighting Engineers eventually retook the lead with 2:46 left in the game after freshman forward John Czarnecki dropped in a lay-up to make the score 68-67. A three-pointer from Aimone with 30 seconds sealed the victory for Rose-Hulman.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, January 4 when it travels to Alliance to face the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference game inside the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex at 7 p.m.
