MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team was defeated by the number eight nationally-ranked Marietta College by a final score of 83-74 in the Ohio Athletic Conference championship game inside the Ban Johnson Arena. 

BW (15-13), who ends its season in the OAC Championships game for the first time since 2006, had three players score in double figures led by sophomore All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) as he scored a team-high 16 points.  Freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) came off the bench and scored 15 points.   Junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) contributed 13 points and game-high tying seven rebounds.  Battle and Quiring were both named to the OAC All-Tournament team.

Marietta (24-4), who won its third OAC Tournament championship, had three players score in double figures led by All-OAC forward A.J. Edwards as he scored a game-high 28 points.  Sophomore guard Anthony Wallace tallied 19 points while junior point guard Keith Richardson chipped in with 14 points.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 14-4 lead when junior guard Dillon Young knocked down a three-pointer at the 16:30 mark.  Marietta extended its lead to 25-10 when senior guard RaNeal Ewing hit a triple at 14:01.  The Yellow Jackets responded with a 12-4 run to cut the lead down to 29-22 on a pair of free throws by junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) at the 9:37 mark.  BW cut the lead down to two points at 35-33 when Battle hit a pair from the charity stripe at 3:26.   The Pioneers outscored the Yellow Jackets by a count of 4-2 the remainder of the half and led 39-35 at the intermission.

Marietta opened the second half on a 7-2 run to extend its lead to 46-37 on a layup by Richardson at the 18:06 mark.  BW cut the lead down to seven points at 48-41 on a layup by Battle at 16:00.   The Pioneers answered with a 7-3 run to push its lead to 55-44 when Ewing scored on a layup at the 12:38 mark.  The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to seven points at 55-48 on a tip-in by sophomore guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion) at 9:28. Marietta outscored BW by a margin of 28-26 the remainder of the game to secure the NCAA Division III National Tournament automatic bid.
