BEREA, Ohio – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) scored a game and season-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Wilmington College, 73-69, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW (7-6, 2-4 OAC), who has won its last six meetings against Wilmington (6-7, 1-5 OAC), had four players score in double-figures. In addition to Fetherolf, freshman forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/ Tuscarawas Central Catholic), freshman point guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) and sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) each chipped in 10 points. The 10 points for Colombo was a career-high game.
Junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored eight points and remains 20th on BW's all-time scoring list with 1,174 points. He needs 209 points to pass Kevin Krakowiak (2010-2014) for 15th place with 1,383 points.
The Quakers had three players score in double-figures, led by junior guard Christian Jones as he scored a team-high 16 points. Also, junior guard D.J. Iles and freshman forward Noah Chatman each contributed 12 points.
In the first half, the score was tied on three different occasions with the last coming at 20-20 with 7:21 left when Jones made a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets went on a 15-7 run in the final seven minutes to take a 35-27 lead into halftime.
In thre second half, BW led throughout and extended it to a game-high 13 points of 41-28 with 17:14 left when Fetherolf made a layup. The Quakers cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 72-69 with 18 seconds left when Iles made a three pointer, but Kuhn made one of two free throws with 15 seconds left to give BW a two-possession lead and secure the victory.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, January 11 when they travel to Ada, Ohio for an OAC game against Ohio Northern University inside the ONU Sports Center at 7 p.m.
