CLEVELAND, Ohio –  The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team won its season opener with a 90-76 victory against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in a non-conference game in Horsburgh Gymnasium inside the Veale Center.

With the win, BW (1-0) snaps a two-year losing skid against Case Western Reserve (0-1). Two keys in the win was BW outscoring the Spartans 24-12 from three-point range and 18-10 at the foul line. The Yellow Jackets also had 11 turnovers compared to 14 for CWRU.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) and junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) as each student-athlete scored a team-high 18 points. In addition, sophomore point guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) scored 14 points and freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) had 10 points and six rebounds in his first collegiate game.  

The Spartans were led by junior forward T.J. Duckett with a game-high 21 points. Also, junior forward David Black, senior guard Javier Alvarez and junior forward Eric Black ended the night with double digits.

There were six leads changes in the first half with the last coming when BW senior guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) made both free throws to give the Yellow Jackets a 36-35 lead with 4:18 left. BW led 49-46 at halftime.

BW held the lead for the remainder of the game with its largest lead of 16 points on four different occasions with the last coming when Battle converted two free throws with 30 seconds left in the contest.   

BW is back in action on Saturday and Sunday November 19 and 20 when it travels to St. Mary's City, Maryland for the Dan Greene Memorial Invitational hosted by St. Mary's (Md.) College. The Yellow Jackets will face the host St. Mary's College on Saturday at 1 p.m. Sunday the tournament consolation game will played at 1 p.m. and the championship game is slated for 3 p.m.
