Kuhn Sparks Men’s Basketball Second Half Surge Versus Otterbein in Al Sirat Grotto Game

BEREA, Ohio – Junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored a game-high  26 points and was named the Al Sirat Grotto player of the game to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team to a, 76-61, victory over Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

In addition to Kuhn, BW (8-7, 3-5OAC) freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) posted a career-high tying 13 points off of four three pointers.  Quiring was a part of a BW bench that provided 30 points.

With his 26 points, Kuhn remains 20th on the all-time BW scoring list with 1,222 points. He needs 7 points to pass Bob Scelza (1981-1984) for 19th place with 1,229 points.

Otterbein (7-8, 3-5 OAC) was led by junior forward Matt Hughes as he scored a team-high 17 points and was named the Al Sirat Grotto player of the game for Otterbein. Senior forward Bryan Mackenzie added 12 points and freshman guard Cameron Arminio contributed 11 points on 4-5 (80%) shooting including three, three-pointers.

In a back and forth first half, the Yellow Jackets led 31-30 heading into intermission.  The largest lead of the first half belonged to BW after a layup from senior guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) fell to give BW a 21-15 lead at the 9:35 mark. The BW bench provided 15 first half points, led by Quiring with nine. Nine first half turnovers for the Cardinals gifted the Yellow Jackets eight points.  Notably two steals from sophomore guard Jay Battle (Lincoln) led to four fast break points.  The Cardinals were led by junior forward Matt Hughes with 10 points, while they found success down low with 18 team points in the paint.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets opened with a 16-8 run after a four point play by Brandy gave BW a 49-39 lead at the 13:19 mark.  The Yellow Jackets would garner their largest lead of the game late in the second half after a jumper by junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) made the score 70-54 with 4:46 remaining. Kuhn sparked the Yellow Jackets with 20 second half points.  

BW will be back in action on Wednesday, January 18 when it travels to University Heights to face OAC and cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7 p.m.
