BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Capital University by a score of 71-68 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Capital Center.
BW (11-12, 6-10 OAC) had four players in double figures led by junior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) as he was one point shy of his career-high with a game-high 17 points. Junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) scored 13 points. Junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) and sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) each chipped in 11 points each.
Capital (11-12, 6-10 OAC) had three players score in double figures led by freshman forward Nate Boone as he scored a team-high 13 points. Freshman forward Tyler Jamison contributed 12 points and sophomore guard Joey Weingartner added 10 points.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead when Kaminski knocked down a three-pointer at the 18:51 mark. The Crusaders answered with a 14-9 run capped off by a jumper in the paint by freshman forward Ganiya Yahaya tying the game at 14-14 with 10:21 remaining in the half. BW outscored Capital 24-15 in the remainder of the half and extended its lead to 11 when freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) made a three-pointer with 42 seconds remaining. Two free made throws by the Crusaders at the end of the half cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 38-29 at the intermission.
In the second half, Capital went on 11-7 run to cut the BW lead to 45-40 when sophomore guard Austin Schreck made a jumper at the 14:57 mark. The Crusaders slowly worked their way back into the game and regained the lead with 3:46 remaining when Boone buried a three giving Capital a 63-62 lead. After two lead changes, the Yellow Jackets regained the lead for good when Kaminski hit his fifth three of the night at the 1:25 mark.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, February 11 when it hosts an Ohio Athletic Conference game against the University of Mount Union on Seniors' and Parents' Night starting at 7 p.m. Fans can follow
