Football Opens OAC Schedule With 28-27 Victory at Ohio Northern
ADA, Ohio -- Senior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) ran for a career-high 159 yards and one touchdown and passed for 97 and another score as the Baldwin Wallace University football team opened its 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with a 28-27 victory at Ohio Northern University at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

BW (1-1, 1-0 OAC) led 14-0 after one quarter, the game was tied 21-21 at halftime and the Yellow Jackets led 28-27 after three periods. The Polar Bears (1-1, 0-1 OAC) outgained the Yellow Jackets, 400-338 in total yardage.

Moeglin
completed 11 of 19 passes for 97 yards.  In addition to Moeglin offensively for BW, senior running back Issac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla./ Lehigh) had 36 rushing yards in 21 attempts and junior wide receiver Bryon Cook (Tallmadge) had three catches for 52 yards and a TD. The Yellow Jacket defense was led by sophomore outside linebacker Sean Nischwitz (Clinton/ Green) with a game and career-high 11 tackles and junior safety Brock Hull (Youngstown/ Boardman) had nine stops and a QB sack.

ONU was led on offense by freshman QB Will Freed, senior RB Justin Magazine and junior WR Devon Price. Freed completed 16 of 30 passes for 154 yards with a TD and an interception. Magazine ran for a game-high 174 yards in 29 attempts with two scores. Price caught a game-high 11 passes for 104 yards. The Polar Bear defense was led by senior OLB Trent Stout with 10 tackles.

In the first quarter, BW gained a 7-0 lead at the 4:40 mark when Moeglin threw a 24-yard TD pass to senior wide treceiver Mike Waggoner (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and junior Academic All-OAC placekicker Joe Simonis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) added the PAT to complete a 13-play and 70-yard drive. BW gained a 14-0 lead on the final play of the fourth quarter when junior wide receiver Trevor George (Aliquippa, Pa./ Carlyton) threw a 37-yard WR-option TD pass to Cook and Simonis added the PAT to end a 4-play and 62-yard drive.

In the second quarter, ONU got on the scoreboard at 9:42 and cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 14-7 when Magazine ran five yards to the end zone and junior Kyle Bergman added the PAT kick to complete a 7-play and 80-yard drive. After BW fumbled the ensuing kickoff, Freed ran seven yards for a TD at 8:25 but the PAT kick was missed and the Jackets led, 14-13. Undaunted, BW came right back and scored on a 2-yard run by sophomore RB Austin Smith (North Royalton) with 6:06 left before halftime and Simonis added the PAT kick for a 21-13 lead. Moeglin had a key 55-yard run during the 5-play and 68-yard drive. ONU scored the final points of the half with eight seconds left when Freed threw a 31-yard TD pass to junior WR Reed Allen and then connected with Allen for the two-point conversion for a 21-21 tie at the intermission.

In the third quarter, BW regained the lead at 28-21 at 4:10 when Smith scored his second TD of the night on a 1-yard run and Simonis added the PAT boot. The TD run capped a solid, 15-play and 76-yard drive that took 7:50 off the clock. ONU came right back to score at 2:02 but still trailed 28-27 when Magazine ran nine yards to paydirt but the Polar Bears missed their second PAT kick of the contest.

In the fourth quarter, ONU had two chances to take the lead. The first attempt ended with a BW interception in the end zone by sophomore cornerback Caray Sparrow (St. Augustine, Fla./ St. Augustine). The second attempt at 3:11 ended when its placekicker missed a 19-yard field goal attempt. BW then ran out the clock for the win.

The Yellow Jackets open their home schedule next Saturday, September 26 when it hosts Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy on Community & Family Day on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 2 p.m. The annual Community & Family Day picnic begins at 12:00 noon.
