NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Senior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Baldwin Wallace University (2-2, 2-1 OAC) football team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University (0-4, 0-3 OAC) by a 34-28 count on Sherman Field at McConagha Stadium. With its win, BW leads 44-13-2 in the all-time series that dates back to 1917 and has won 10 straight games against the Fighting Muskies.

BW led 7-0 after one quarter, Muskingum led 14-13 at halftime and 21-20 after three periods. A 14-point fourth quarter led to the victory. The Muskingum outgained BW, 449-420, in total yardage, including a 329-215 advantage through the air.

For BW, Moeglin completed 18 of 27 passes for 215 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for the ball 16 times for a game-high 80 yards and a TD. The leading receiver was junior Bryon Cook (Tallmadge) who caught acareer-high nine passes for 123 yards and two TD's. In addition to Moeglin, senior running back Issac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla./ Lehigh) ran for 79 yards in 12 attempts and a TD. The Yellow Jacket defense was led by sophomore outside linebacker Sam Groff (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) with 11 tackles.

MU QB Cody Williams completed 19 of 29 passes for 329 yards with three TD's. The top receiver was Darius Hayes-Carruth who caught six balls for 127 yards with a TD. The top runner was junior RB Melvin Smith who carried the ball 16 times for 61 yards and caught two passes for 36 more yards with a TD. The Muskies were led on defense by three separate tacklers with 10 each.

In the first quarter, BW gained a 7-0 lead at 10:01 when Moeglin threw a 1-yard TD pass to Cook to complete an 8-play and 80-yard drive in 2:57. Junior Academic All-OAC placekicker Joe Simonis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) added the PAT boot.

In the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets gained a 13-0 advantage at 13:51 when Moeglin tossed the second 1-yard scoring play to Cook to complete a 15-play and 80-yard drive in 4:07. A 2-point conversion run failed.  Muskingum closed the deficit to 13-7 with 2:58 left in the half when Williams passed 68 yards to Hayes-Carruth on the first play after a BW punt. Junior Cody Dent added the PAT. The Fighting Muskies grabbed a 14-13 lead five seconds before halftime when Williams was flushed out of the pocket and scrambled back to the 23-yard line and threw to Smith who caught the ball at the seven and and dove into the end zone to complete a 6-yard TD play. Dent added his second PAT kick.

In the third quarter, after BW stopped the Muskies on a 4th-down-and-1 deep in Yellow Jacket territory, Moeglin led his team on a 14-play and 74-yard drive and scored on a keeper from 7 yards away to give BW a 20-14 lead. Simonis added his second PAT kick. Muskingum regained the lead at 21-20 at 1:24 when Williams passed 50 yards to sophomore WR Damon Jones to complete a 5-play and 76-yard drive. Dent added his third PAT.

In the fourth quarter, BW regained the lead at 28-21 at 12:42 when Moeglin threw an 18-yard TD pass to sophomore RB Austin Smith (North Royalton) and then threw a 2-point conversion pass to junior WR Trevor George (Aliquippa, Pa./ Carlyton). The scoring pass completed an 8-play and 66-yard drive. Reed gave BW a 34-21 lead at 2:32 when he ran 15 yards to the end zone to complete a 9-play and 75-yard drive. The PAT kick failed.

Muskingum closed the deficit to 34-28 with 49 seconds left when Williams ran two yards to the end zone. Muskingum then onside kicked and recovered the ball, but an offsides penalty forced them to kick again. BW ended matters when it recovered Muskingum's second onside kick at midfield.

The Yellow Jackets return to action next Saturday, October 10 when they host OAC rival Marietta College on Homecoming on Tressel Field in The George Finnie Stadium in Berea at 2 p.m. It is the first of two straight home games. BW also hosts Wilmington College in the 38th Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
