BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior quarterback Tyler Moeglin (Canton/ Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas) will be honored tonight (Tuesday, March 8, 2016) as both a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and scholarship recipient and the winner of the 2015 Cleveland Touchdown Club Charities John Peyton Cleveland Small College Most Valuable Player Award. Moeglin will be one of a number of local high school, college and professional standouts and coaches who will be honored at the annual NFF/CTCC Awards Banquet at LaCentre Banquet & Conference Center in Westlake, Ohio.
The John Peyton Award is named after the late John Peyton who served numerous athletics groups and organizations in Greater Cleveland for many years and in many capacities, including as the Commissioner of the North Coast League. The award symbolizes the Most Outstanding Greater Cleveland Small College Football Player from Cuyahoga, Lake/ Geauga, Lorain or Medina counties.
Moeglin, who carries a 3.3 grade point average and plans to attend graduate school and become a physicians assistant, was a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection and one of the best all-around athletes in Division III.
"Tyler Moeglin is an outstanding student and leader at Baldwin Wallace University," said 13th-year Head Football Coach John Snell. "He is exceptional in every way and facet of his life."
"Tyler is an excellent student who is focused and extremely successful in the classroom," said Snell. "On the football field, he was a team captain and leader and had a very positive impact on both our season and the other student-athletes in the program. He is a great role model for our younger players. And in our campus community, Tyler is a leader who has worked on initatives that have made our campus community better and stronger as well as helped others off of our campus through volunteering and community service.
This season, Moeglin started nine games at QB (missed final game due to an injury). He completed 137 of 195 passes for 70.3 percent for 1,573 yards with 11 touchdowns and just two interceptions and had a 154.58 QB efficency rating. He also led the team in rushing with 739 yards in 144 attempts for a 5.1-yard average per carry with 11 more TD's. He two passes for 46 yards and averaged 256.9 yards of total offense per game.
For his career, Moeglin played in 29 games, including 20 as a starting QB. He completed 273 of 439 passes for 62.2% for 3,240 yards with 25 TD's, eight interceptions and a 139.3 efficency rating. He ran the ball 286 times for 1,344 yards for 4.7 yards-per-carry with 20 TD's. He also caught 10 passes for 171 yards with one TD. Overall, he accounted for 4,584 yards of total offense and 46 TD's.
Moeglin led the Yellow Jackets to a 7-3 record this spring and a tie for second place in the prestigious Ohio Athletic Conference. During his four years at BW, the Jackets produced a 25-15 record with three winning seasons.
