ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University (6-3, 6-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference) football team ended its five-game winning streak when it lost 42-0 at No.1-ranked University of Mount Union (9-0, 8-0 OAC) at Mount Union Finnie Stadium. Mt. Union clinched at least a share of the OAC regular season title with the win.
The game was tied 0-0 after one quarter, 14-0 at halftime and 21-0 after three periods. The Purple Raiders had a 468-148 advantage in total yards.
For BW, Tyler Moeglin (Canton/ St. Thomas Aquinas) completed 7 of 12 passes for 61 yards and ran for 26 yards in 22 attempts. Sophomore running back Adam Blake (Alliance/ Marlington) led the running game with 43 yards in 12 attempts. The receiving corps were led by by junior wide receiver Mike Waggoner (Stow/ Monroe Falls) with three catches for 28 yards. The Yellow Jacket defense was led by sophomore outside linebacker Sam Groff (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) with a game-high 10 tackles.
For Mount Union, senior QB Taurice Scott completed 21 of 27 passes for 252 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 45 yards in nine attempts The running game was led by senior RB Logan Nemeth with a game-high 97 yards in 14 attempts and junior RB Bradley Mitchell ran for 70 yards in 15 attempts. The receiving corps was led by the trio of junior Jordan Hargrove and Tim Kenndy and senior Roman Namdar. Hargrove caught six passes for 85 yards and a TD. Kennedy caught six for 49 yards. Namdar caught five for 78 and three TD's. The Raiders were led on defense by senior safeties Alex Kocheff and Will Hiteshue with eight apiece .
After a scoreless first quarter, Mt. Union got on the scoreboard and took a 7-0 lead at 3:33 of the second quarter when Taurice Scott threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to freshman WR Skyler Scott to complete an 8-play and 62-yard drive. Junior kicker Jake Antel added the PAT kick. Following a BW punt, the Purple Raiders sped 57 yards in six plays to make it 14-0 when Taurice Scott threw an 11-yard slant pass to Namdar for his second TD pass of the game. Antel added his second PAT boot.
In the third quarter, Mt. Union extended its lead to 21-0 at 9:26 when Taurice Scott tossed his third TD pass of the game and second to Namdar, this time a 6-yarder. Antel connected on his third PAT.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Scott threw his fourth scoring aerial when he alluded a number of tacklers and found Hargrove at the three-yard line who bulled his way into the endzone for a 28-0 lead. Antel's fourth PAT ended an 8-play and 80-yard drive that followed a missed Yellow Jacket field goal attempt.
Taurice Scott continued his vanishing act when he again eluded a few BW tacklers and then found Namdar on the sideline who broke one BW tackle, eluded another tackler and broke another tackle en route to a 44-yard TD for a 35-0 lead at 10:40. It included Scott's fifth TD pass, Namdar's third TD catch and Antel's fifth PAT kick.
The lead grew to 42-0 at 6:02 when Mitchell scored from three yards away and Antel added the PAT. The TD followed a fumbled punt by the Yellow Jackets that the Purple Raiders recovered on the BW 8-yard line.
The Yellow Jackets return to action and end the regular season next Saturday, November 14 when BW hosts OAC rival Heidelberg University on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium on Seniors' & Parents' Day at 1:30 p.m.
