Women’s Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season in Third at Rose-Hulman (Ind.)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field teams opened up the outdoor schedule by finishing third at the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology Early Bird at the William Welch Complex.

BW placed third of eight teams with a total of 134 points. Rose-Hulman won its home meet with 176.5 points.

The Yellow Jackets turned in two event wins in the field from senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference jumper Jessica Edwards (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve). Edwards leaped a career-best 33 feet, 4.5 inches to win the triple jump while Buckhannon hit a mark of 151'5" to win the hammer throw. Freshman thrower Alexzandria Strawbridge (Titusville, Pa./Oil City) had an impressive showing in her first collegiate outdoor meet when she placed second in the javelin throw with a toss of 103'6".

Three additional event wins came on the track between freshman All-OAC hurdler Amanda Milo (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC distance runner Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View). Milo won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles in times of 14.98 seconds and 1:07.03, respectively. Pendola broke the tape in the 5,000-meter run in 17:56.44. Not far behind Pendola was sophomore All-OAC distance runner Madison Kile (North Canton/Hoover), who was the runner-up in the same event in a career-best 18:00.65. Meanwhile, freshman sprinter/hurdler Heather Guiley (Louisville) joined Milo in the top three of the 400 hurdles by placing third with a time of 1:13.92.

Freshman distance runner Alexa Smith (North Canton/Jackson) and junior Academic All-OAC distance runner Jordan Dascani (Toledo/Springfield) claimed two of the top three spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Smith was the runner-up in 13:01.49 while Dascani finished third in 13:14.66. Freshman sprinter Nina Curry (North Olmsted) placed second in the 100-meter dash in 13.22 seconds. Sophomore All-OAC sprinter Ky'leana Allen (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) ran a career-best time of 1:03.29 to finish third in the 400-meter dash.

In relay action, junior distance runner Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.), Kile, sophomore distance runner Molina Otte (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) and Smith combined for a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter event in a time of 4:45.39.

BW continues the outdoor season on Saturday, March 23, at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational, hosted by Muskingum University on the Johnson Family Track.
