Women's Indoor Track and Field Participate in Raider Tune Up

ALLIANCE, Ohio – In the final meet before the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field teams competed in the Raider Tune Up, hosted by the University of Mount Union inside the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex.

Junior All-OAC thrower and Academic All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) swept the throwing events for the first time this season. She first won the shot put with a mark of 41 feet, 5.75 inches before following it up with a career-best mark of 53'2". That weight throw toss currently ranks 17th in NCAA Division III at time of meet. Senior Academic All-OAC jumper Jessica Edwards (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) posted a season-best leap of 33'10.75" in the triple jump.  

A trio of underclassmen claimed even more event titles on the track. Freshman hurdler/sprinter Amanda Milo (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) posted the first win in the 60-meter hurdle finals in a time of 9.20. In the next event, sophomore All-OAC sprinter Ky'leana Allen (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) then won the 400-meter dash in a career-best time of 1:02.03. Sophomore distance runner Megan Vaughn (Amherst/Firelands) closed out the individual events by winning the 5,000-meter run in a career-best 20:04.33.

Runner-up finishes also came from Allen, freshman sprinter Maddy Neitzel (Brunswick), sophomore All-OAC distance runner Rebecca Penrose (Springfield/Shawnee) and junior distance runner Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.). Allen crossed the finish line in a career-best 27.35 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Freshman sprinter Maddy Neitzel (Brunswick) posted a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 8.08 seconds. In the distance events, Penrose and Makowski ran times of 2:25.68 and 20:18.28, respectively, in the 800-meter run and 5,000.

Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC distance runner Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View) and junior Academic All-OAC distance runner Jordan Dascani (Toledo/Springfield) rounded out the podium finishes for the Yellow Jackets. Pendola placed third in the 1,000-meter run in a career-best time of 3:05.73 while Dascani also took third in the 5,000 in 21:27.56.

BW will next compete on Friday, Feb. 22, on the first day of the 2019 OAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Northern University inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
