STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team opened the 2019-20 campaign with a 5-4 victory over non-conference opponent, Franciscan University on the Belleview Tennis Courts.
BW's (1-0) duo of senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Becca Liebler (Medina) and freshman Elizabeth Cole (Shaker Heights) secured No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-6.
Junior Academic All-OAC and All-OAC Ashtyn Morris (Salem) claimed No. 1 singles after her Franciscan opponent fell due to injury. In No. 2 singles, junior two-time All-OAC Jayde Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Cole won No. 3 singles with a line of 2-6, 6-4, and a 10-6 tilt in the tie-breaking set. Liebler won No. 4 singles in three sets. Her first set went 6-0, then fell in set two 4-6, and sealed the tie-breaker by a score of 10-8.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the courts next on September 11, when they welcome Notre Dame College to Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
