Wrestlers Beat Cleveland Cross-Town Rival CWRU, 31-15, in University Circle

BEREA, OHIO --  Behind pins by senior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) and junior 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/Lake), the Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team defeated Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University, 31-15, today (Saturday, November 13, 2010) in Horsbaugh Gymnasium in University Circle in the season-opening dual match for the Yellow Jackets.

BW, which opened its season with a strong finish last Saturday (Nov. 6) at the Messiah (Pa.) College Tournament, is now 1-0 in dual matches and next competes on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the University of Mount Union Duals in Alliance. The first round begins at 11:00 a.m.

In addition to Scavuzzo and Jones, senior 165-pounder Korey Leonard (Kinsman/Pymatuning Valley) by a 17-7 major decison. BW aslo scored wins by decision from junior 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley), junior 141-pounder Grant Steward (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne), and sophomore 197-pounder Joseph Georgian (Eastlake/Villa Angela-St. Joseph). In addition, freshman Andrew Taylor (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) picked up a forefit win at 133 pounds.

For the season, Scavuzzo is now 5-0 overall and has two pins. Jones is 3-2 with three pins, while Leonhard,Dombrady and Taylor are all 4-2. Georgian and Steward both improved to 3-2 overall.


Following its trip to Alliance, the BW grapplers will host its first home match on Tuesday, Nov. 30 against NCAA Division II Tiffin University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
