BW Wrestlers Finish Fourth at the Season-Opening Messiah (Pa.) Tournament

2010 Messiah Brackets

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished fourth of nine teams competing today (Saturday, November 6, 2010) at the annual Messiah College Invitational Tournament in Grantham, Pennsylvania. This was the season-opener for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets had 59 total points and were led by senior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) and senior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll (Milan/ Edison) who each were the champion of their respective weight classes. 

Scavuzzo was seeded first at 174 pounds and compiled a 4-0 record with one pin, one major decision and two decisions en route to his individual title. He dominated No.2-seed Davin Okerblom of Messiah in the championship match by a score of 11-2. Stoll was seeded second at 197 pounds and compiled a 4-0 mark with a pin and three decisions. He dominated Russell Jones of Messiah in the title match by a 15-7 count.   


Also placing for the Yellow Jackets were senior 165-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley)and sophomore 197-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph) as each grappler placed fourth in their respective weight classes. Leonhard posted a 3-2 record and had a Georgian 2-2 mark.  Also posting a winning or .500 slate were junior Jeremy Dombrady (Copley) was 3-2 at 125 pounds, freshmanAndrew Taylor (Columbus/ Worthington Kilbourne) was 3-2 at 133 pounds, freshman Tyreese Brown (Cleveland/ Glenville) was 2-2 at 133 pounds, junior Grant Steward (Columbus/ Worthington Kilbourne)was 2-2 at 141 pounds, sophomore Danny Huffman (Maple Heights) was 2-2 at 149 pounds and junior Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake) was 2-2 at 285 pounds.
 

The Yellow Jacket grapplers are back in action next Saturday, Nov. 13 when they travel to University Circle, Ohio to compete at the annual Case Western Reserve University Duals. Action begins at 10:00 a.m.  The first home match is on Tuesday, Nov. 30 against NCAA Division II Tiffin University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
