Wrestlers Finish Fourth at the RIT Tournament in Rochester, New York
BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished fourth of nine teams competing today (Saturday, December 4, 2010) at the annual Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament in Rochester, New York.

The Yellow Jackets had 94 total points and were led by senior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge), senior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll (Milan/Edison), junior 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/Lake), sophomore 184-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/Villa Angela-St. Joseph), freshman 125-pounder Andrew Taylor (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne), senior 165-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/Pymatuning Valley) and junior 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley).

Scavuzzo caputered the 174-pound championship after posting a 4-0 record while recording two pins along the way. He started out his day with a quick pin in 2:40 of his first match.  Scavuzzo then continued his dominance with another pin in his second match in 2:39.  Scavuzzo then advanced to the finals after a medical forfeit and then beat John Carroll's Todd Gaydosh, 5-1, in the championship match.  With his four wins,Scavuzzo improves his seasonal mark to 14-0.   

Stoll was 2-1 on the day and improved his season mark to 7-1.  In his first match, Stoll won by pin in 1:49.  That victory advanced Stoll to the semifinals where he was victorious again after a 9-3 decision over Wesleyan University's Luke Erickson.  In the championship match, he lost to Cortland State's Carl Korpi, 4-2, to place second. 

Jones started out with a pair of 9-4 victories followed by a injury defeat which also moved him in the finals.  He then lost to Cortland State's Corey James, 3-0, to place second as well.  Jones went 3-1 on the day and improved his overall record this year to 9-5.

Georgian won his first match 13-3 and ended his second match with a pin at 6:02 moving him into the finals.  In the championship match, he fell to Wesleyan University's Jefferson Ajayi, 3-2.  On the day, Georgianwent 2-1 and improved his seasonal mark to 3-1.

Taylor placed third overall after going 4-1 on the day and improving his overall record to 10-6.  He started out with two wins, 12-4 and 7-4 before falling to the eventual champion Brian Bistis of Cortland State, 14-1.  Taylorrecovered with another victory, 7-5, before defeating Wesleyan University's Maika Nagata, 10-3, in the third place match. 

Placing fourth was Leonhard, who went 2-2 on the day, to improve his seasonal record to 10-7.  He started out with a pin in 2:29 of his first match.  Leonhard then suffered a loss to John Carroll's Clarence Semple, 9-3, and was placed in the consolation bracket.  He then earned one more victory before losing to Oswego State's Marc Collins to place fourth. 

Dombrady placed sixth in his weight class after going 3-3 on the day which moves his overall record to 10-6.  He won his first match, 17-0, before losing to Weselyan University's Chris Alvanos and moving into the consolation bracket.  Dombardy then went on to win two straight matches before falling to Cortland State's Sean Kempf.  

In addition for BW, junior 141-pounder Grant Steward (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) went 2-2 on the day improving his seasonal mark to 8-6.  Freshman 125-pounder Tyreese Brown (Cleveland/Glenville) and freshman 141-pounder Timothy Hamm (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) both went 0-2 on the day. 

The Yellow Jacket grapplers are in action againt next Saturday, December 11, 2010, when they host NCAA Division II rival Lake Erie College at 1:00 p.m. in the Urspriung Gymnasium in Berea, Ohio.
