Wrestlers Defeat Muskingum, 36-6, for Eighth Win in Last Nine Matches

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won nine of 10 matches to defeat Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum University, 36-6, tonight (Saturday, February 12, 2011) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center. The victory was the eighth in the last nine dual matches for BW. 

With its victory, the Yellow Jackets improve to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in the OAC and are now tied for second place with Ohio Northern University in the OAC Standings. Earlier this morning, BW lost to ONU, 25-18, in the Ursprung Gym to end a season-high seven-match winning streak. With its loss, Muskingum is now 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.

BW would win its beginning five matches. Starting off the streak was junior 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley) as he won by a technical fall, 16-0 in 4:58. The next three wins came by decisions beginning with senior 133-pounder Phillip Payne (Woodmere/Orange), followed by junior 141-pounderGrant Steward (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne)and freshman 149-pounder Andrew Taylor (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) by scores of 5-3, 6-3 and 4-3 respectively. Senior 157-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) capped off the streak with an 8-3 decision putting the Yellow Jackets up 17-0.

Muskingum would then get its first and only points of the contest when senior 165-pounder Adam Harris received a forfeit.
After the forfeit at 165, BW would close out the match by winning the final four matches.  Senior 174-pounderAndrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/Woodridge) picked up major decision of 12-0 to improve to his record to a team leading 32-2.
Following Scavuzzo's major decision, sophomore 184-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph) won by decision of 3-1.  Senior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll (Milan/Edison) and junior 285-pounderRyan Jones (Uniontown (Lake) would close out the match with pins at 5:26 and 35 second respectively. Stollhas now recorded a pin in his last six matches and Jones has pinned his last two opponents.
The BW grapplers are back in action next Tuesday when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to face eighth-ranked the University of Mount Union in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 7:30 p.m.
