BEREA, OHIO -- Pins by Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) and Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph) allowed for the Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team to defeat NCAA Division II Tiffin University, 30-18, tonight (Tuesday, November 30, 2010) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea. With their win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 3-3 overall.
Heavyweight Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake) won by a decision of 11-5 to open up the match. Senior 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley) followed him as he won by a forfeit to give BW an early 9-0 lead. Junior 141-pounder Grant Steward (Columbus/ Worthington Kilbourne)was the next Yellow Jacket winner when he won by a 10-7 decision to extend the BW lead to 12-6.
Senior 165-pounder Korey Leonard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) began a streak of four straight BW wins to end the match when he got a takedown with 30 seconds to go in the match to give him a 7-6 victory. Senior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) and sophomore Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph) each followed with pins to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 27-18. Senior Tristan Stoll (Milan/ Edison) ended the match with a 3-2 decision.
For the season, Scavuzzo is now 10-0 overall and has five pins, Stoll is also a perfect 5-0, Dombrady is 7-4,Georgian is 4-2, Leonard is 9-2, Jones and Steward are each 6-4 overall, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Saturday, December 4 when they travel to Rochester, New York to participate at the annual Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament. Action begins at 9:30 a.m. The next home match for BW is on Saturday, Dec. 11 when it hosts Div. II Lake Erie College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:00 p.m.
