BEREA, Ohio- The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team came up short against The College of Wooster 20-12 in non-conference action inside George Finnie Stadium.

Sophomore midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) led the Jackets with a team-high four goals. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/ Kent Roosevelt), and senior attack Caitlin Wheeler (Lake Mills, Wis./Oak Park-River Forest {Ill.}) both added three goals. A team-high four ground balls were picked up by senior defender Lauryn Wright (Orrville) and sophomore midfielder Jordan Paugh (South Lyon, Mich.). 

Wooster (4-1) was led by junior midfielder Emma Lawrence, who tallied a game-high five goals. Freshmen attack Alexa Mellis added four goals on five shots and junior midfielder Megan Healy recorded a game-high 11 ground balls.

The majority of the first half was a battle of runs between the two teams. Wooster jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after free-position goals by Helena Enders and Lawrence in the first three minutes of the game. BW's offense came alive as the Jackets took a 3-2 lead at the 17:25 mark after Patrick, Wheeler and Paugh all found the back of the net. After a 2-0 run by Wooster, BW countered with a 2-0 run of their own to take over the lead at 5-4 with just under eight minutes to go in the first half after goals by Wheeler and Jaekle. Another Wheeler goal tied the game at 6-6, but Wooster scored the final goal of the half with 59 seconds left to take a 7-6 lead going into intermission.

At the 27:39 mark in the second half, BW tied the game at 7 after a goal by junior attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green). BW countered Wooster's 3-0 run with goals by Patrick and Jaekle, which cut the Fighting Scots' lead to just one, 10-9. Wooster put together a very strong showing from that point on, which included a 4-0 run and a man-down goal by Lawrence after a missed free-position shot by BW. Jaekle was a bright spot for BW in second half after tallying a man-up goal and the final Yellow Jacket goal with 3:52 remaining in the game.

The Yellow Jackets (3-6, 1-0 OAC) are back in action when they travel to Wilmington on Friday, March 30 to face-off against the Fighting Quakers in an OAC game inside Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium at 1 p.m.
