Women’s Lacrosse Powers Past Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team powered past Ohio Northern University for an 18-9 Ohio Athletic Conference victory inside Dial-Roberson Stadium.   

Senior attack Caitlin Wheeler (Lake Mills, Wis./Oak Park-River Forest {Ill.})  led BW (6-8, 4-2 OAC) as she scored a career-high nine points off seven goals and two assists. Junior All-OAC attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) was the next leading scorer with two goals and two assists. Junior All-OAC midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) netted three goals for three points while sophomore midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) also recorded three points with two goals and one assist. Sophomore All-OAC midfielder Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) rounded out the Yellow Jackets' multiple-point scorers with one goal and one assist.

Freshman midfielder Sydney Skelding led Ohio Northern (6-6, 3-2 OAC) with a team-high three goals. Sophomore attack Betsy Naugle netted two goals of her own while sophomore defender Rachel Shipman recorded two assists.

The Yellow Jackets opened up an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Stein and Jaekle before Ohio Northern got on the scoreboard with 24:23 left in the first half to cut the lead down to 2-1. However, Wheeler took over the game, recording five of the game's next six goals to give BW a 7-2 lead at the 7:55 mark. Albrechta and Patrick then got in on the act to build up to a 10-2 advantage before the Polar Bears finished off the half on a short 2-0 run, making the score 10-4 at halftime.

Freshman defender Cassidy Prather (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) got the second half started on a bang when she netted her first career goal at the 27:12 mark to give the Yellow Jackets an 11-4 lead. BW would eventually build up to a 10-goal lead at 16-6 with a man-up goal from Patrick with 16:35 left in the game. Ohio Northern scored three minutes later to come back within nine goals of the Yellow Jackets. Each team would go on a separate 2-0 run to finish off the game.  

BW will have a week off before returning to Berea for the team's final home game on Saturday, April 21, when the Yellow Jackets host Otterbein University at 7:30 p.m. for Seniors' and Parents' Night inside George Finnie Stadium.
