FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Competing in its first game on the team's spring break trip to the west coast on Tuesday night, the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dominated Pacific (Ore.) University 19-3 to mark the first win of the 2018 season and the first of head coach Nicholle St. Pierre's tenure in Berea.
"It was a good first win at BW," remarked St. Pierre. "I was happy with the solid team effort in this victory. We had many players on the offense seeing cage this game and I am looking forward to the next one."
Sophomore midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) led BW (1-1) with a career-high five goals. Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) scored a career-high three goals and had a team-high five draw controls while freshman midfielder/defender Christina Roskoph (Strongsville) netted her first three collegiate goals as well. Sophomore midfielder Jordan Paugh (South Lyon, Mich.), freshman attack Alexis O'Neill (Westlake) and senior attack Caitlin Wheeler (Lake Mills, Wis./Oak Park-River Forest {Ill.}) each chipped in two goals apiece to round out the multiple goal scorers.
Pacific's (0-4) three goals were scored by senior midfielder Felicia Doblado, junior attack Jasmyne Adame-Contant and sophomore midfielder Roya Tahmassebi.
BW had its foot on the gas right from the start, getting on the scoreboard with Jaekle's first goal of the season just under a minute into action, and never let up from there. The Yellow Jackets eventually built up to a 6-0 lead before the Boxers finally found the back of the net with 19:53 remaining in the first half. BW scored five more times in the first half while only giving up one additional goal and led 11-2 heading into the locker room.
The second half was just as dominant as the first half as six different Yellow Jackets filled up the stat sheet. Pacific scored its final goal with just over a minute left on the clock as BW cruised to a 19-3 victory.
The Yellow Jackets dominated every statistical category: shots (38-3), ground balls (16-6), turnovers (just 14 compared to 31), caused turnovers (22-8) and clears (10-for-10 as compared to 4-for-8). The one area in which the Boxers remained step-for-step was in draw controls where BW only held a slight 12-11 advantage.
BW will play its second game of its west coast trip against George Fox (Ore.) University on Thursday, March 9, at 9 p.m. EST inside the Austin Sports Complex in Newberg, Oregon.
