NEWBERG, Ore. – A late run by the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team was not enough to catch George Fox (Ore.) University in a 19-15 loss on Thursday night inside the Austin Sports Complex in the Yellow Jackets' second spring break game.

Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) led BW (1-2) with a game-high and career-high seven goals, besting the career-high of three goals she set just two days ago. Sophomore midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) and freshman attack Alexis O'Neill (Westlake) were the only other multi-goal scorers as each netted two goals apiece.

Senior attack Jess Hanson led George Fox (4-0) with a team-high five goals while sophomore midfielder Jennifer Burke was not far behind with four goals. Junior Lois Ray and sophomore midfielder Jocelyn Welberg each netted three goals and sophomore midfielder Grace Matteson chipped in two goals of her own.

Both team's offenses got on the board early as Stein kicked off the scoring with a goal just 12 seconds into the game but the Bruins were able to counter 10 seconds later and tie the game at 1-1. From that point on, the game became one of runs as George Fox had begun a 4-0 run to take a three-goal lead at the 25:57 mark. Two goals from Stein and sophomore midfielder Jordan Paugh (South Lyon, Mich.) cut the lead down to one. However, every time BW came within striking distance, the Bruins would go off on another run. With the clock reading 4:32, George Fox surrendered an own goal to tie the game at 9-9. The Yellow Jackets could not capitalize on the opportunity and gave up three more goals before halftime, trailing 12-9 heading into the locker room.

George Fox continued that 3-0 run into the second half and led by a game-high five goals with 28:06 left in the game. Jaekle and junior All-OAC midfielder Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) each scored to bring BW back within three goals but the Bruins continued to add to the lead, keeping the Yellow Jackets at arms' length. O'Neill had cut the lead down to two goals at 16-14 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Stein had won the ensuing draw control and BW was able to rifle off a couple shots but could not find the back of the net. The final five minutes became a flurry of fouls and free position shots, which George Fox was able to use to their advantage to seal the 19-15 win.

BW will play its final spring break game against Linfield (Ore.) College on Friday, March 9, at 8 p.m. EST at the Soccer/Lacrosse Field in McMinnville, Oregon.
