BW Women’s Lacrosse Loses to Curry (Mass.), 12-9, in Florida

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team lost to Curry (Mass.) College, 12-9, in its season-opener in Bradenton, Florida during its annual spring break trip to the Sunshine State. BW also plays Becker (Mass.) College at 12:30 p.m. in Bradenton on Thursday.

BW (0-1) was led by the quartet of attack freshman Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill./ Oak Park-River Forest), senior midfielder Cara Wood (Shaker Heights/ Laurel), sophomore attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) and sophomore midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) each scored a pair of goals. Wheeler, Turner, senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y./ East Aurora) and junior attack Emma Harding (Akron/ Richfield Revere) each had an assist.

Curry (1-2) was led by sophomore midfielders Kelly Parker and Mallory Knowlton with three goals each.

BW outshot Curry, 32-20, including a 23-17 advantage in shots on-goal. Curry had a 21-13 advantage in ground balls. BW caused 16 Curry turnovers.

In the first half, BW gained a 1-0 lead at 28:47 when Kocher scored via an assist from Harding. After Curry tied it at 1-1 at 28:17, Wood scored via a Turner assist at 19:03 for a 2-1 lead. Curry scored the next three goals to take a 4-2 advantage before Wheeler scored unassisted at 7:26 to make it 4-3. Curry closed out the scoring with a goal at 2:25 to lead 5-3 at the intermission.

In the second half, Curry scored the first two goals to build a 7-3 lead before Wood scored her second goal at 19:36 to cut the deficit to 7-4. After Curry scored a pair of goals to lead 9-4, BW got a goal from Turner via a Bodkin assist at 14:52, Wheeler's second goal at 11:10 and Kocher's second at 8:38 to close the gap to 9-7.

Curry made it 10-7 at 6:29 but Bodkin equalized at 4:06 to make it 10-8. A pair of goals by the Colonels at 2:49 and 1:01, respectively, made it 12-8 before Turner closed out the scoring in the last second.

The first northern and home game is on March 18 versus Albion (Mich.) College in The George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The first Ohio Athletic Conference contest is on Friday, April 3 at Wilmington College at 1 p.m.
