BW Women’s Lacrosse Holds Off Otterbein For Second OAC Win

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team picked up their second Ohio Athletic Conference of the season with a 10-8 victory against Otterbein University on the Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium.

BW (5-5, 2-2 OAC),who snapped a two game losing skid, was led by sophomore All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) with a game-high tying four goals. Sophomore attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.) tallied two goals and added one assist.

Otterbein (7-6, 2-3 OAC) was led by senior attack Tory Blatt with a game-high tying four goals. Senior attack Courtney Hilfinger added three goals, all of which she scored in the first half.

The Yellow Jackets took an early 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Turner and senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Amherst, N.Y.) with the last coming at the 21:43 mark. After a Cardinal goal, BW extended its lead to 4-1 on scores from junior attack Emma Harding (Akron/Revere) and Russell with the last coming at 16:13. Otterbein scored two goals to the cut the lead down 4-3 with the last coming by Tory Blatt at the 9:51 mark. Down the stretch, the Cardinals got a pair of goals from Hilfinger with the last coming at 1:52 but it was not enough as the Yellow Jackets lead 6-5 at the half. BW's final goals of the opening period came from Russell and freshman attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill. /Oak Park-River Forest).

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with three unanswered goals by senior attack Victoria Budzyn (East Amherst, N.Y.), Turner and Russell with the last coming at the 25:50 mark to take a 9-5 lead. Otterbein responded with three unanswered to cut the lead down to 9-8 at 11:40. BW scored the final goal of the game when Russell scored the free position goal at the 8:18 mark.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 29 total shots, including 20 on goal, allowed eight goals and made 12saves.

The Cardinals outshot BW, 29-18, including a 20-16 advantage in shots on goal. Otterbein had a 24-20 lead in ground balls, a 16-12 advantage in caused turnovers. Both teams had 10 draw controls.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 22 when it hosts an OAC game against Muskingum University on Seniors' and Parents' Night at 7:30 p.m. The final regular season game is next Saturday, April 25 when the team travels to Bexley for an OAC game against Capital University at 1 p.m.
