BW Women’s Lacrosse Loses to Albion (Mich.) in Overtime

 BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team lost to Albion (Mich.) College, 11-10 in overtime, in its home opener on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. It was the first of four straight home games for the Yellow Jackets (1-2). 

The visiting Brittons (5-0) built an early 4-0 lead at 16:24 before BW received goals from junior attack Emma Harding (Hudson) at 13:10, freshman attack Caitlin Wheeler (River Forest, Ill./ Oak-Park-River Forest) at 10:18 and sophomore attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind./ Carmel) at 6:14 to close the gap to 4-3. Albion added the final goal of the first stanza at 5:26 to lead 5-3 at halftime.

BW scored the first four goals of the second half to forge a 7-5 lead. Sophomore All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Rocky River) made it 5-4 at 26:58 and senior attack Victoria Budzyn (East Aurora, N.Y./ East Aurora) tied it at 5-5 at 26:09. BW grabbed a 6-5 lead at 25:02 on a goal by sophomore attack Kelsey Johnson (Carmel, Ind./ Park Tudor) and grabbed a 7-5 lead at 23:12 when Turner scored her second of the game and fifth of the season.

Albion tied it at 7-7 at 17:00 before BW regained the lead at 15:54 on Russell's second goal. The Brittons scored the next two goals to take a 9-8 lead at 10:22 when sophomore All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) scored to tie it at 9-9 at 8:39. Then BW regained a 10-9 lead at 3:22 when senior attack Colleen Bodkin (East Amherst, N.Y./ East Aurora) scored. Albion tied it again at 10-10 with 37 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, Albion scored the game-winner with 17 seconds left..

The Yellow Jackets remain at home to face NCAA Division II Utsuline University this Saturday, March  21 at 1 p.m. and then hosts Dv. II Walsh University on March 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Calvin (Mich.) College on March 28 at 1 p.m. The first Ohio Athletic Conference contest is on Friday, April 3 at Wilmington College at 1 p.m.
