Men's Outdoor Track and Field Places Fourth at Sparky Adams Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field team finished fourth as the Yellow Jackets hosted the 49th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational inside George Finnie Stadium.

The BW men finished fourth of eight teams with 81 points while Ohio Wesleyan University won the men's meet with 143 points.

In the field, sophomore All-OAC thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) continued his dominance in the discus, winning the event with a mark of 159 feet, 5 inches. Achladis was also the runner-up in the shot put by tossing 50'10.75" and took sixth in the hammer throw with a career-best 148'1". Senior thrower Travis Giardina (Wampum, Pa./Mohawk Area) placed seventh in the discus and eighth in the hammer throw with marks of 126'5" and 140'0". In the long jump, freshmen jumpers Alex Dempsey (Madison) and Peter Rosado (Haydenville/Logan) took the top two spots as Dempsey won the event with a leap of 21'4" while Rosado hit a career-best mark of 20'9.25".

On the track, junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) had the best result as he was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdle event in a career-best time of 56.9 seconds. In the 110-meter hurdle event, sophomore hurdler Robby Becker (South Amherst/Firelands) finished fourth in a career-best 15.71 seconds. Three Yellow Jackets brought home points in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore distance runner Isaac Wilson (Tylersburg, Pa./North Clarion) placed fourth in a career-best time of 15:45.77 while freshmen distance runners Andrew Krupp (Ottawa Hills) and Spencer Roberts (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) took fifth and seventh in times of 15:52.18 and 15:56.86, respectively, as both were running their first outdoor 5,000 race. Also in distance, freshman Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) ran a career-best time of 2:00.10 to finish eighth in the 800-meter run.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Cole, sophomore sprinter Kris Hart (Van Wert), Rosado and freshman Dale Booker (Winter Haven, Fla/All Saints Academy) finished as the runners-up in a time of 43.99 seconds.

BW will be back in action during the two-day 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday, April 27-28, at Kerscher Stadium on the campus of Ohio Northern University.
