BEXLEY, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University junior All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Hays) set a school record and Ohio Athletic Conference record in the 200-meter dash preliminaries and senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) won the weight throw to lead the men's indoor track and field teams during the first day of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Capital University inside The Capital Center.
After day one, the BW men are fourth of 10 teams with 20 points and the University of Mount Union is in the lead with 41.5 points.
Leverette set a school record and OAC record when he won the 200-meter dash preliminaries in 21.86 seconds. The previous school record, which Leverette set just a few weeks ago at the Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic, was 21.93 seconds. He advances to the 200-meter dash finals on Saturday.
Dysert won the weight throw with a career-best toss of 60'2", which currently ranks as the 11th best mark in NCAA Division III. He also improved on last year's sixth place finish. Sophomore Carson Kinney (Greenwich/South Central) also brought home points as he placed sixth with a throw of 52'9.25".
Freshman distance runner Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) earned the Yellow Jackets four points with a fifth place finish in the 5,000-meter race in a career-best time of 15:19.28.
In other preliminary action, junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) qualified for the 400-meter dash finals Saturday by running a time of 51.59 seconds, just 0.03 off his career best. Sophomore sprinter Deion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) qualified for the 60-meter dash finals with a career-best time of 7.15 seconds.
The distance medley relay team of freshman distance runner Spencer Roberts (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West), junior sprinter Noah Kendrick (Akron/Walsh Jesuit), freshman distance runner Matt Floyd (Hamilton/Cincinnati Christian) and freshman distance runner Andrew Krupp (Ottawa Hills) capped off the night's scoring with a sixth place finish in a season-best time of 11:09.17.
BW will return to The Capital Center tomorrow, Saturday, February 24, to compete in the final day of the OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Capital.
