NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field team claimed a second place finishe at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational, hosted by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference school Muskingum University on the Johnson Family Track.
BW was originally scheduled to compete at the Goucher (Md.) T&F Classic, which was cancelled as a result of inclement weather received over the past week. Only the throwers were originally scheduled to compete at Muskingum but the rest of the Yellow Jackets were graciously allowed to compete as well.
The BW men finished second of 14 teams with a total of 68 points while Case Western Reserve University was the top team with 187 points.
Freshman distance runner Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) had the best result on the track when won the 3,000-meter steeplechase event in a time of 9:43.78 followed up by senior distance runner Dylan Tanner (Mentor) and freshman distance runner Larry Salerno (Mentor) fourth and fifth in times of 10:45.83 and 10:57.69. Hickmott's steeplechase time represents the 20th-fastest time in the nation in Division III. Hickmott also placed sixth in the 800-meter run in 2:02.33 while fellow freshman distance runner Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey) took sixth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:17.97. Sophomore hurdler Robby Becker (South Amherst/Firelands) finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdle finals in 16.28 seconds and junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) placed seventh in the 200-meter dash in 23.17 seconds.
In the field, sophomore All-OAC thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) won the discus event by throwing a career-best 162 feet, 1 inch, the third-longest toss in Division III so far this season. Achladis also finished third in the shot put and fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 51'6.25" and a career-best toss of 143'8", respectively. Freshmen jumpers Alex Dempsey (Madison) and Peter Rosado (Haydenville/Logan) finished sixth and seventh in the long jump by leaping season-best and career-best marks of 20 feet, 5 inches and 20'3.75", respectively. Dempsey then took third in the triple jump with a mark of 40'0.5".
BW will be back in action on Friday, March 30, when the Yellow Jackets head south to compete in the "Coach Rob" Invitational, hosted by Wittenberg University on the Earl F. Morris Track.
