Men's Outdoor Track and Field Competes at Mount Union's Homon Open

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field team competed in the John Homon Open, hosted by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference school University of Mount Union inside Mount Union Stadium.

In the field, sophomore All-OAC thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) finished as the runner-up in both the shot put and the discus as he tossed 50'6.75" and 162'0", respectively. Achladis also finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 142'6". Senior thrower Travis Giardina (Wampum, Pa./Mohawk Area) took sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 146'4", just 1 inch shy of his career best, and also placed eighth in the discus with 133'6" mark. Freshman jumper Alex Dempsey (Madison) took fourth in the long jump as he cleared a mark of 20'7.75".

The BW distance runners brought home three separate top-three finishes as freshman distance runner Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey) and sophomore distance runner Nick Irwin (Westlake) came in second and third with times of 32:58.21 and 33:30.59, marking a career-best time for Irwin. Freshman distance runner Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) was also the runner-up in the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:35.03 and took seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:00.14, both career-best times for the freshman. Junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) finished seventh in the 100-meter dash in 11.48 seconds and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.59 seconds. Freshman sprinter Dale Booker (Winter Haven, Fla./All Saints Academy) took ninth in the 100-meter dash as well in 11.63 seconds.

BW will be back in action on Saturday, April 14, at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on the George Gauthier Track.
