STEVENS POINTS, Wis. – Five members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in an NCAA Last Chance meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point inside the Multi-Activity Center.
All five student-athletes competed to obtain a qualifying mark to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships next weekend, March 9-10.
In the field events, sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) had the best result with a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 50 feet, 9.25 inches. Fellow sophomore All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) finished eighth in the women's shot put with a mark of 39', 0.25". Senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) took seventh in the weight throw with a 56'6.75" toss.
In distance, freshman Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) and Madison Kile (North Canton/Hoover) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 1-mile run. Marek ran a career-best 5:20.66 while Kile turned in a time of 5:34.64. In the 3,000-meter run, sophomore All-OAC distance runner Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View) was the runner up in a time of 10:35.33.
The Yellow Jackets will now wait and see which athletes qualify to the National Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama, Friday and Saturday, March 9-10.
