Leverette Breaks School Record at Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Junior All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) broke his own Baldwin Wallace University school record in the 200-meter dash as the men's indoor track and field team went up against NCAA Division II competition in the two-day Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic, hosted by Hillsdale (Mich.) College inside the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.

On day one of the meet, Leverette won the 200-meter dash championship event and broke his own BW school record in the process, running a time of 21.93 seconds and improving on the school record by 0.03 seconds. He also tied for the fourth-fastest time in the 60-meter dash preliminaries at 6.98 seconds, just 0.01 seconds off his personal best.

The Yellow Jackets also had a field event champion in senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) as he won the weight throw with a career-best mark of 59 feet, 2.25 inches.

Sophomore distance runner Nick Irwin (Westlake) took third place in the 5,000-meter run in a career-best time of 16:05.02. In the 3,000-meter championship event, freshman Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool), freshman Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey) and sophomore Isaac Wilson (Tylersburg, Pa./North Clarion) went seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in season-best and career-best times of 9:02.38, 9:06.40 and 9:09.24, respectively.

More career-best marks were set on day two. In the 400-meter dash, junior Brandon Cole (Vermillion) placed fifth in a career-best 51.56 seconds while freshman distance runner Matthew Floyd (Hamilton/Cincinnati Christian) took fifth in the 800-meter run in a career-best time of 2:02.37.

Leverette competed in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash and in the 400-meter dash on the second day, finishing sixth in both events in times of 7.04 seconds and 50.49 seconds, respectively. 

The Yellow Jackets return to Berea to host the Mid-February Meet on Friday, February 9, inside the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. Field events begin at 4 p.m. while the running events will begin at approximately 5 p.m.
