Men's Indoor Track and Field Team Competes at ONU Last Chance Meet

ADA, Ohio – Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team competed at the ONU Last Chance Meet hosted by the Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center. The meet is considered a last chance meet for the BW individuals to improve upon or hit the qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

BW was led by junior All-OAC thrower Cody Smith (Port Clinton) and junior distance runner Brady Jeffers (South Amherst/Firelands) as they each won their respective events. Smith won the shot put with a career-best throw of 54 feet 11 inches which is currently the 12th best mark in the country.  Jeffers won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.66.

In the other field events, junior thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 55'5.5''. In addition to Smith in the shot put, freshman thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lak/Elyria Catholic) placed fourth with a career-best throw of 48'7.5''.  Senior vaulter Johnathon Spilker (Solon) finished fifth in the pole vault with a season-best vault of 15'1.5''.

In the running events, junior sprinter Vee Sealey (Painesville/Harvey) earned a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.71 seconds and sophomore sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermilion) finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best finish of 23.55 seconds. 

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday March 10 and 11 when it travels to Naperville, Illinois for the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by North Central (Ill.) College on the Al B. Carius Track.
