Men's Indoor Track and Field Finishes 11th at Mid-February Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team placed 11th at the annual Mid-February meet on the Harrison Dilliard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

BW, who had most of its athletes resting for the All-Ohio Indoor Championships tomorrow, finished 11th of 13 teams with 25.5 points. Point Park (Pa.) University won the men's meet with 114 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by by junior thrower Travis Giardina (Wampum, Pa./Mohawk Area), freshman hurdler Robby Becker (South Amherst / irelands) and junior distance runner Justin Swords (Brunswick). Giardina placed third in the weight throw with a career-best throw of 46 feet 7.5 inches. Becker finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a career-best finish of 8.28 seconds. Swords came in fourth place in the 1,000-meter run with a career-best time of 2:46.13.

In other running events, freshman Kris Hart placed seventh in the 200-meter dash and ninth in the 55-meter dash. Hart finished with time of 23.89 seconds in the 200-meter and recorded a career-best time of 6.84 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Freshman distance runner Jason Seballos (Padua) and sophomore distance runner Spencer Mahon (North Royalton) earned eighth place finishes. Seballos recorded a career-best time of 3:01.53 in the 1,000-meter run and Mahon with a career-best finish of 9:35.74 in the 3,000-meter run. Freshman Jesse Kucewicz (Lancaster Central N.Y.) finished 12th  in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 24.33 and 13th in the 400-meter dash with a career-best time of 54.7 seconds.

In the field events, Nigel Simmons (Snellville Brookwood, Ga.) finished 10th with a toss of 40'7.75" and freshman Charles Ellis (Cape Coral, Fla./Canterbury) finished 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 37'3'' and 15th in the shot put with a career-best throw of 38'00''.

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 10 when it travels to Westerville for the All-Ohio Indoor Championships hosted by Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation Center starting at 12 p.m.
