Men's Outdoor Track and Field Team Places Fifth at Centre (Ky.) Invitational

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field team finished fifth at the Centre (Ky.) College Invitational inside Farris Stadium.

The BW finished fifth of 17 teams with 54 points.Case Western Reserve University won the invitational with 122 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior pole vaulter Johnathon Spilker (Solon) and junior thrower Cody Smith (Port Clinton) as they each won events for the Yellow Jackets. Spilker won the pole vault event with a vault of 14' 11.25'' and Smith won the shot put event with a mark of 51 feet 7.25 inches.

Along with Smith in the shot put event freshman thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) placed third with a mark of 46'4''. Junior throwers Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and Smith took second and fifth in the hammer throw and second and sixth place in the discus throw. In the hammer throw Dysert had a career-best mark of 165' 10'' and Smith hit a mark of 144'10''. In the discus Dysert had a toss of 137'8'' and Smith recorded a mark of 131'5''.   Dysert also earned a ninth place finish in the javelin throw with a toss of 149'3''.

In the running events, freshman distance runner Issac Wilson (Tylersburg, Pa./North Clarion) finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a career-best time of 33:59.98. Sophomore hurdler Brandon Cole (Vermilion) finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.49 seconds.  

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 8 when it travels to Alliance for the John Homon Open hosted by University of Mount Union inside Mount Union Stadium.
