No. 16 Men's Indoor Track and Field Team Takes Second at Greater Cleveland Championships

BEREA, Ohio – The 16th-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field teams was second at the Greater Cleveland Championships on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

BW was second of four teams with 146 points.  Case Western Reserve University won the meet with 190 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman jumper Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) won the 55-meter dash and was third in the long jump Leverette ran a career-best tying 6.60 seconds in the 55-meter dash and had a career-best mark of 20'5.75" in the long jump.

In addition, sophomore Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) won the weight throw and was third in the shot put.  Dysert has a mark of 50'4.5" in the weight throw and had a career-best mark of 42'9.75 in the shot put.  Junior vaulter Johnathon Spilker (Solon) won the pole vault with a mark of 14'5.5". Sophomore sprinter Vee Sealey (Painesville/Harvey) won the 400-meter dash and was fifth in the 200-meter dash.  Sealey ran a career-best time of 52.74 in the 400-meter dash and had a career-best time of 23.92 in the 200-meter dash. Freshman jumper Milton Woods (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) won the high jump with a mark of 5'9.75". Freshman hurdler Brandon Cole (Vermilion) won the 55-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 8.33 seconds.  Senior Academic All-American Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./St. Anslem's Abbey) was second in the triple jump with a career-best  mark of 40'7".  Sophomore distance runner Justin Swords (Brunswick) took fourth in the 800-meter in a career-best time of 2:04.02.

Sophomore thrower Travis Giardina (Wampum, Pa. / Mohawk Area) was sixth in the shot put with a career-best mark of 41'7.75". Sophomore sprinter Trypp Washington (Orlando, Fla./First Academy) placed sixth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.74.  Freshman distance runner Holden Daly (Vermillion) finished sixth in the 1-mile run in a career-best time of 5:02.70.

In the 500-meter dash, senior Tate Stoll (Norwalk/Western Reserve) was second in a career-best time of 1:15.17 and freshman Noah Kendrick (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) was third in a career-best time of 1:19.07

In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore distance runner Brian Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) was second in a time of 16:09.27, freshman distance runner Creighton Jensen (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) was third in a career-best time of 16:33.49, sophomore Dylan Tanner (Mentor) was fourth in a time of 16:45.10, senior Alex Fuhrmann (Painesville/Riverside) finished fifth in a time of 16:52.09 and freshman Phil Spronz (Strongsville) was sixth in a time of 17:44.78.

In relay action, the 4x200-meter relay team of Stoll, Kendrick, sophomore Jared Reimel (Lake Mary, Fla. / Lyman) and senior Chris Markus (Brooklyn) were second in a time of 1:43.15.   The 4x400-meter relay team of Fuhrmann, freshman Spencer Mahon (North Royalton), freshman Todd Cushing (Plymouth, Mass. /Plymouth North) and Spronz finished third in a time of 3:54.78

Select members of the Yellow Jacket indoor track and field teams will compete in the Kent State University Tune-Up inside the Kent State Field House at 10 a.m.

The Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Marietta College will be contested on Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27 in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center.  Events begin on Friday at 12 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
