Burdorff Places Second, Leverette Qualifies on First Day of NCAA Championship Meet

GRINNELL, Iowa --  Baldwin Wallace University senior Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/ Riverside) placed second in the weight throw and the Yellow Jacket men stand tied for third after the first day of competition at the two-day 2016 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship Meet inside the Bear Recreation and Athletic Center at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. The final day of competition is tomorrow, Saturday, March 12.

Burdorff placed second with a career-best throw of 62'7.5". He entered the competition ranked eighth in Division III and bettered his previous best of 59'5.75". Burdorff, who made his fourth appearance in a Division III national championship meet, earned Division III All-America honors for his efforts, this was Burdorff's first All-American accolade.

In addition, freshman sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/ John Adams) qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash when he tied his own school record with a 22.06-second timing in his preliminary heat. The final are on Saturday. Leverette, who entered the meet ranked ninth in the 200 meters, has already exceeded his predicted finish by being part of the eight-man final.
