TERRA HAUTE, IND. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's aoutdoor track and field teamopened the 2016 season as it finished third at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Early Bird Invitational in the William Welch Track & Field Complex
BW was third of eight teams with 126 points. Rose-Hulman won the meet with 241.5 points
The Yellow Jackets were led by senior All-American and Academic All-American sprinter Ben Beidleman (Washington, D.C./ St. Anselm's Abbey) as he was the individual winner both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Ben Beidleman had a time of 11.10 in the 100-meter and a time of 21.94 in the 200-meter.
In addition, senior All-OAC thrower Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside) as he won the hammer throw and was third in the shot put and seventh in the discus. Burdorff had a mark of 167 feet and seven inches in the hammer and a mark of 48'0. 5" in the shot put. Sophomore thrower Cody Smith (Port Clinton) won the shot put with a career-best mark of 51'8.25".
In relay action, the 4x100-meter team was the winner in a time of 42.65. The 4x400-meter relay team was fifth in a time of 3:39.20.
The Yellow Jacket outdoor track and field teams are back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2 when they travel to Wooster to compete in the Wooster Invitational in the John P. Papp Stadium. Friday's events begin at 4 p.m. and events are slated for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
